THE FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Sunday September 5, 2010
Collect:
Merciful God,
your son Jesus came to save us
and bore our sins on the cross:
may we trust in our mercy
and know your love,
rejoicing in the righteousness
that is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
First Reading: Philemon 1 - 21
Paul pleads for the release into freedom of the slave Philemon. Here we have a real example of the equality Christians aspire to, something we believe reflects the gift of the love of God. There are times we are bound to fail. We need to keep pressing on in hope.
Please respond to Psalm 1 with the following:
Lord, my delight is in your law.
PLEASE STAND when the Gospel Acclamation is sung.
ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!
Let your face shine on your servants:
and teach us your decrees.
ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA
Gospel: Luke 14.25 - 33
Here is a lesson for this church as it prepares to celebrate its Patronal Festival celebrations. Have we thought of everything that needs to be sorted? And ourselves? Are we willing to stay the course? We often love the glory, but not the muck and hard work. A life of Christian giving must include both.

It is with some sadness that we have decided to get the churchyard locked to the public at night. This is because of ongoing anti-social behaviour problems. Services will still take place as advertised, but we may need to unlock the gates on St Matthew's Row for these. Needless to say, this will change some ingrained community habits. Please help us in these changes.
The Rector is to speak at the St Paul's Forum at the cathedral on Sunday October 3 at 1300. Click here for more information.
