Malcolme has been coming to St Matthew's for about three years. He has a lifelong association with the church and the East End, and is a fount of stories on characters and pubs. He was elected Churchwarden at the 2010 Annual Parochial Church Meeting. Here is a little from what he has written about himself:
'I know God expects more from me I owe him big time so was very much elated when adopted as church warden - not for the badge or hat as that means nothing (been there done that) but i feel now I'm home back in the heart of my being. At last I can serve as planned for me. Maybe it is by doing repairs, painting, cleaning the silver and brass - I don't mind this as long as it doesn't get in the way of my spiritual life and to help increasing the spiritual growth of St Matthew's. I feel so much part of a wonderful family again and thank God and the people of St Matthew's for theirefaith and trust in me. I am a sinner and in constant need of forgiveness and ask that you pray for my understanding of the needs of St Matthew's and make the right decisions when comes to it.'

Nick is close to winning the award for longest running photo on the People page! His tenure will extend for a little while, as he has been elected Churchwarden, along with Malcolme Bass, for the next year. He has been coming to St Matthew's since moving to the area about three years ago. He hopes the welcome he received - and the ability to get stuck in - is one that others can follow. He has written:
'The church has remained the bedrock of my life through a period of personal and societal change. I aim for an honest balance between being intellectually rigorous and having some solid spiritual foundations; I look for challenge and for deep security through my faith. It was a real pleasure to find in St Matthew's a welcoming, inclusive local church in the liberal, Catholic tradition.'
